Our Optometrists

Dr. Julie Thums

Optometrist

​​​​​​​Dr. Julie Thums is a small town farm girl from northern Illinois, where she was active in athletics and student associations at Ashton High School. Dr. Thums attended Augustana College in Rock Island, IL where she earned her B.A. in Pre-Med & Biology and found her love for optometry while working off campus at an eye clinic. Dr. Thums graduated with her Doctorate of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 2004. Shortly thereafter she joined the HealthView Eye Care Center team where she enjoys practicing full scope optometry including comprehensive vision exams, contact lens fitting, dry eye therapy and treatment of ocular disease.

Returning to her small town roots, Dr. Thums enjoys living in Medford. She and her husband Pete are very active in the community. Their three sons, Fischer, Stanley and Marty keep them busy year round with many outdoor hobbies and sports. Dr. Thums also enjoys cooking, flying and all things fitness.

Dr. Betsy Meinel

Optometrist

​​​​​​​Dr. Betsy (Berends) Meinel was born and raised in Medford and attended the Medford Area Public Schools. Her undergraduate studies were done at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, and she then attended the Illinois College of Optometry where she received her Doctorate of Optometry degree, graduating Magna Cum Laude. In addition to providing comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages, Dr. Meinel has a special interest in pediatrics, myopia control and contact lenses.

Outside of the office, Dr. Betsy stays active in the community with her growing family. You will often find her baking, swimming, playing with their dog, watching baseball, or traveling. Dr. Meinel and her husband, Andrew, are proud to raise their family here and are happy to call Medford their home.

Dr. Jaden Carstensen

Optometrist

​​​​​​​Dr. Jaden Carstensen was born and raised in Medford, WI. After graduating from Medford Senior High School, she attended the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, graduating summa cum laude. Dr. Carstensen enjoys all aspects of primary care optometry and is passionate about providing care for patients at every stage of life. She has a special interest in pediatrics and the management of ocular diseases, including glaucoma and dry eye.

Dr. Carstensen and her fiancé, Matthew, are excited to be returning to their hometown of Medford. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. 

Dr. Breanna Hoffmann

Optometrist

​​​​​​​Dr. Breanna Hoffmann (Ruesch), a native of Medford, attended the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse where she graduated with a major in Chemistry and a minor in Mathematics. She went on to receive her Doctorate of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University College of Optometry where she graduated with honors.

Dr. Hoffmann enjoys the profession of Optometry and has a special interest in fitting specialty contact lenses.

She enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters and is happy to call Medford home again.
